Beautiful parade floats and mechanized puppets since the Edo period

Tahara-City

The Tahara Festival is known far and wide for its ornate festival floats with mechanized puppets atop, and is said to have started during the Edo period.
Three floats and their mechanized karakuri puppets go on parade together with elegantly decorated portable shrines, while at night, children on the floats perform dances with elaborate hand movements for the crowd.

Fri, Sep 12, 2025:
• 4:00 pm–9:00 pm Portable shrine, nighttime parade floats, and musical street accompaniment (in Shin Town)

Sat, Sep 13, 2025:
• 10:10 am–1:00 pm Daytime parade floats (mechanized karakuri puppet floats)
• 3:30 pm–10:00 pm Nighttime parade floats and musical street accompaniment
• 8:00 pm–9:00 pm Nighttime parade float gathering

Sun, Sep 14, 2025:
• 10:10 am–2:10 pm Daytime parade floats (mechanized karakuri puppet floats)
• 2:20 pm–5:40 pm Large cannon portable shrine parade (handheld Tezutsu cannon fireworks, Roman candles, and large cannon fireworks)
• 5:00 pm–9:00 pm Large Tezutsu cannon fireworks (at Hananoki Plaza)
