Omanto Festival (Nishio City)

Man and horse become one

This festival is dedicated annually on the third Sunday of October to Nabahata Hachimansha Shrine in the city of Nishio. The festival is a daring and risky one in which young men run up to horses galloping around a circular pen, grab ahold of their necks, and run side by side with the racing steeds. The circular pen is set up in the town of Nakabata's Nakabata Hachimansha Shrine precincts with a total run around the pen spanning a hefty approximate 120 meters. The festival is the true portrayal of the bond between man and horse as they become one.
