Sanage Festival
Date: Oct 11,2025(Sat)、Oct 12(Sun)
One of Toyota City's hottest performances
The Sanage Festival is held each year with the Main Festival on the second Sunday of October and the Rehearsal Festival on the preceding Saturday. The Rehearsal Festival features a surreally beautiful portable shrine procession and fierce bo no te martial arts performances. On the Main Festival day, you can watch young girls in beautiful red and white religious costumes dancing in Shinto ceremony and, again, edge-of-your-seat bo no te performances.
Bo no te is a form of folk acrobatic martial arts where two participants swing bows or other weapons at each other while ducking and weaving to avoid the other's advances. The art is practiced at village festivals and has been passed down among various communities in the prefecture of Aichi. The bo no te performances at the Sanage Festival are well-known in the city of Toyota.
