Museum of industrial powerhouse Toyota from its Meiji-period beginnings

Japan’s manufacturing industry has long been the envy of other nations. One of the greatest success stories would have to be that of the Toyota Group, which began as a textiles manufacturer in 1911 at the former Toyota Boshoku Headquarters Plant before moving on to become the automobile manufacturing behemoth of today. This cultural epicenter for global giant Toyota, Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology (formerly the Toyota Techno Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology), offers a walk through the history and technology of the company while maintaining the plant's precious and historic architecture.

Technology's steps forward in historical buildings from yesteryear

The Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology can be divided into two parts: the Textile Machinery Pavilion and the Automobile Pavilion. The Textile Machinery Pavilion uses a Taisho-, or early 1900s-, era spinning mill and buildings preserved to look just as they would have in their hey day. Textile machinery—one of the key industry tools which helped Japan's development into the manufacturing center we know today—and related technology are on display in a clear-cut and easy-to-understand manner.

Come to know Toyota inside and out at the Automobile Pavilion

The Automobile Pavilion stretches some 7,900 m2 and is big enough to look like a giant gymnasium, housing an entire automobile plant inside! All sorts of actual machinery and dynamic exhibitions as well as real-life demonstrations by operators are available to paint a picture of how automobile manufacturing works. The facility has earned a favorable reception by overseas visitors for the clear way you can learn all about Toyota and its vehicles through the senses.
A kids' corner and children's library are also available, letting the little ones learn about the principles of manufacturing in a fun way too.
