Aguri Station Nagura Rest Stop
The rustic appeal of this simple, yet charming roadside rest stop
Roadside Aguri Station Nagura Rest Stop is surrounded by the vibrant and majestic mountains of the rural Okumikawa area and offers rustic appeal through its use of natural resources from nearby villages.
Peruse a produce retail corner as well as an area offering local specialties, and even try your hand at gardening at the nearby hands-on garden. At the refreshments corner, the locally famous gohei mochi—grilled rice cakes on a stick, covered in a sweet miso sauce—are simply irresistible. Located at the entrance to the famous Chausuyama Kogen Road, it is the perfect rest stop to energize before or after your Okumikawa adventure.
Wildly popular Renaissance Tomatoes and gohei mochi with a perilla seed sauce
The Okumikawa area is famous for its delicious tomatoes. Among them, the Renaissance Tomatoes are so popular they sell out during the morning.
Also look for the gohei mochi—grilled rice cakes on a stick, covered in a sweet miso and perilla seed sauce—so delectable they won bronze in an award from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. These gohei mochi offer a chewy mouthfeel while their distinct perilla seed sauce offers a mellow, yet rich flavor.
Once you've purchased your gohei mochi, nibble on them as you relax at the outdoor tables and chairs offering a spectacular view of the Okumikawa countryside from this laid-back and warm roadside rest stop.
Kohiganzakura Cherry Blossoms along a crystalline river
Next to Aguri Station Nagura Rest Stop, countless Kohiganzakura Cherry Trees line a road along the embankment of the Nagura River and its clear, flowing water. The Takato Castle Remains of Nagano Prefecture are famous for their Kohiganzakura Cherry Trees, but Aichi Prefecture too allows you to gaze upon the delicacy of their gentle pink blossoms.
