Katahara Onsen Hot Spring
A hot spring area in the mountains, renowned for its hydrangeas
Far off from the Mikawa Bay at the base of Mt. Sangane is a quiet hot spring area surrounded by lush greenery. The spring has simple alkaline properties, smooth on the skin, and it is said to benefit those with neuralgia and gastrointestinal pain.
At Hydrangea Village, the Hydrangea Festival is held every June, during which 50,000 of the flowers come into full bloom. Enjoy nighttime illumination, and if you time it right, you can witness the spectacle of fireflies floating through the night sky.
Note:
• Hot springs in the Katahara area are crrently closed and the date of their reopening is still undetermined. Check out Nishiura Onsen Hot Spring, Gamagori Onsen Hot Spring, or Miya Onsen Hot Springs if you would wish to enjoy onsen hot springs in the surrounding area.
