Okazaki-City Okutono Jinya (Former Okutono Domain Headquarters)
A flower garden village where the history and culture of the Okutono Domain silently slumber
A son of Sanenori, the fifth generation head of the Ogyu-Matsudaira clan, Sanetsugu founded the Okutono-Matsudaira branch and began governing this area of Okazaki City. Afterwards, his great-grandson Norizane formed the Okutono Domain in 1711 and established Okutono Jinya as the domain's headquarters.
These days, part of the feudal lord's residence and traditional earthen plaster walls surrounded by beautiful white-walled buildings remain atop a low hill. Restored in the style of the early Edo period, Kimbo-tei Teahouse and Horai Garden are especially elegant.
There are also beautiful flower gardens that bloom from season to season with springtime offering wild cherry blossoms, Thunberg's meadowsweets, and daffodils followed by roses, hydrangeas, bush clover, autumn maple leaves, and camellias.
